Delete your Hungry Shelf account and data
Last updated: 25 August 2026
This page explains how to delete your Hungry Shelf account and what happens to your data. It applies to accounts created with email, Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple.
Option 1 — Delete in the app (fastest)
- Open Hungry Shelf.
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. You will be signed out and returned to the welcome screen.
Option 2 — Delete by email (no app needed)
Email hungryshelfinfo@gmail.com from the email address on your Hungry Shelf account, with the subject line "Delete my account".
If you signed in with Apple using "Hide My Email", send it from your Apple relay address or include that address in the message so we can find the account.
We confirm your identity, delete the account, and reply to confirm — normally within 7 days, and always within 30 days.
What is deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- your account and sign-in credentials
- your recipes stored in the cloud (merged server copy), including ingredients, steps, notes and tips
- your onboarding answers stored on our servers (goals and recipe sources)
- your profile record.
Deleting in the app also clears the recipe library and cookbooks stored on that device. Cookbooks were device-only and are not a separate cloud copy.
Local free-tier counters and the Plus preference flag on the phone may remain until you clear app data; they are not your cloud account.
This cannot be undone. If you want to keep your recipes, export or copy them before deleting.
What is kept, and for how long
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Import job history (the source link you shared, processing status and the extracted draft) | Immediately detached from your account (profile_id cleared) so it is no longer linked to you. Guest jobs also have no profile. A scheduled purge deletes those rows after 90 days |
| Rate-limit counters (IP / user) | Used in rolling one-hour windows for abuse prevention; not kept as part of your profile |
| Purchase and billing records | Held by Google Play or Apple, not by us. Retained by them under their policies and any tax and accounting law that applies |
| Records we must keep by law | Retained only as long as the law requires |
Photos you scanned and cook-mode audio are never stored, so there is nothing to delete.
Recipes on your other devices
If you used Hungry Shelf on more than one phone, the on-device library on the other devices is not reachable from the deletion request. To clear it, open the app on that device and delete the recipes, or uninstall the app and clear its data in Android Settings → Apps → Hungry Shelf → Storage → Clear data.
Your subscription is separate
Deleting your account does not cancel Hungry Shelf Plus. Subscriptions are managed by the store, so you must cancel it yourself, or billing continues:
- Android: Google Play → menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Hungry Shelf Plus → Cancel subscription
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Hungry Shelf Plus → Cancel subscription
Cancel before your next renewal date. Refunds are handled by Google or Apple.
Delete only some data, not your account
You do not have to delete your account to remove content:
- Delete a single recipe or cookbook from your library in the app.
- Turn off microphone or camera access in Android Settings → Apps → Hungry Shelf → Permissions, which stops voice and photo features from collecting anything.
